WSHE SUMMER BOWLING LEAGUE
It's really not too soon to be thinking about summer plans. Be sure
to
include our bowling league in them. Last year this was a big hit, since
we
do not meet in the park during June, July and August. This league is
for
everyone - moms, dads and children. A "Bumper League" will be available
for
the younger teams.
The league will run for eight weeks on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00
p.m.
to about 4:00 p.m. It will start on June 7th and run through July 26th.
The cost will be $3.75 per person per week. This includes two games
and
shoes. We also got the same great deal of one free game each day all
through summer, and league discounts on food. It will be at the
same
location as last year - AMF Peoria Lanes, 8475 W. Olive Ave.
Flyers and sign ups will be available in May. We will also have a
free
"Sign-up Party" at the bowling alley on May 24th at 2:15 p.m. after
park
day. So get your team of four together and sign up for some cool summer
fun. Questions? Call Bonnie Bailey at 623-xxx-xxxx
WEST SIDE HOME EDUCATORS, INC.
Yes, you read that right and it is not a type error. We are now a
Non-Tax
Exempt Nonprofit Corporation.
This new status will open a lot of doors for us. One example is that we
may
now use many City of Peoria facilities at no cost to us.
A great big thank you to Dennis Landauer who oversaw the whole process
for
us and to Donald D. Colburn who gave us his legal counsel. They both
not
only volunteered their expertise, but they also covered the costs
of
incorporating for us.
Thank you very much. We really appreciate your support of our home
school
efforts.
Play -The King of Ireland's Son
Sign-ups are full for "The King of Ireland's Son" and all payments are
due
by April 12. Any seats not paid for by that date will be opened up to
those
on the waiting list. If you would like to go, but were unable to sign
up
earlier, please sign up on the waiting list; there will likely be
some
cancellations. See Margo Heine at the park if you have questions.
Challenger Learning Center
Prepare for BLAST OFF!
Come experience the excitement of space exploration this year as part of
a
Challenger Learning Center simulation program. The Challenger Center
for
Space Science Education was founded in 1986 following the Challenger
51-L
space shuttle tragedy. These centers have been established across
the
nation. This summer we will have the opportunity to take part in the
next
best thing to actual space flight with a mission control room designed
after NASA's Johnson Space Center and a room on board a space
station.
Challenger Learning Center, of Arizona, will prepare for blast off! As
a
special program designed for Home School groups, we can participate in
a
one-day hands on training and mission experience. Anyone 10 years
through
adulthood can use their principles of science, mathematics and technology
to
complete the tasks involved. Your surroundings will resemble a
realistic
Mission Control and Space Shuttle - computer consoles,
communication
headsets, continuos messages on the loud speakers, electronics
messages,
teammates they can only see on video monitors and hands-on activities
at
science stations. This will be an authentic encounter with science
and
technology.
Come and take the challenge! Use your critical thinking skills,
multiple
process skills, learn to problem-solve, make decisions, and communicate as
a
team. Every mission is successful and gives a renewed spirit of
camaraderie
and boosted self-esteem. It's a guaranteed thriller for every
family
member.
Our mission date is August 15th, 2000. Training will be in the
morning
hours, with the Mission Experience in the afternoon. The cost is $14.75
per
person, all ages. WE are limited to 34 people. This must be paid in
advance. To reserve your families seats, mail the complete dollar
amount,
name and age of each person attending to: Leslie Landauer, 8742
W.
Wethersfield Rd, Peoria, AZ 85381
The 4 hour training session starts at 8:30a.m. Lunch will be at 12:30 on
the premises. Everyone should bring a sack lunch in case the
restaurant
facility is not complete. The mission will begin at 1:30 and is 2 1/2
hours
long. The challenger learning Center of Arizona is located in Peoria
just
south of Sunrise Mountain High School at 21200 N. 83rd Ave. Don't' miss
this opportunity. The missions are completely booked for two school
years
from September 2000. If you need more information at this time, call
Leslie
at 623-xxx-xxxx. A confirmation will be sent once your payment is
received.
You will be notified of any changes concerning the August Mission
should
they occur. Come experience the excitement, and prepare for
Blast Off!!
End-Of-The-Year Cool, Pool Party!
Summer seems just around the corner, and if your kids are like mine,
they're
itching to dive in and swim. So this is just a reminder to plan
your
vacation early so you don't miss our COOL, POOL, PARTY 2000! The
tentative
date is set for June 24th, from 6-9pm. The theme for the evening
is
Tropical. There will be a prize for best-dressed child and most
humorously
dressed adult. Please follow the theme. So get those creative brain
cells
activated. Spend some time at garage sales (or in your own garage) and
hit
those thrift stores. Let's make it a family night to remember.
Complete
details about the party will be in the next newsletter with a sign-up
sheet
at the park starting in May. Do you have a great suggestion or
idea
concerning the party? Let's talk! Call me, Leslie Landauer, at
623-xxx-xxxx.
Curtain Call
Sign-ups are underway for interested girls eight years old and up to learn
a
Korean Fan Dance to exhibit at the pool party this summer.
The
end-of-the-year pool party may seem like a long time away, but time has
a
way of sneaking by. Practices will be held on Thursdays from 1:30-2:30
p.m.
beginning May 4th-June 22nd. Meet outside Glendale Public Library on
the
west side of the bicycle racks. Sign-up at the park or call Renee Metcalf
to be placed on the list. 602-xxx-xxxx

like
your family page to be a part of this years yearbook. You can also

Important - 8th Grade Video
If your child is planning to participate in the 8th grade graduation
this
coming May, I need your help!. It is my desire to have a video produced
and
shown at the ceremony. Each graduate attending will be included in this
if
you can send me his or her headshot. A school photo or close-up is
fine.
Please mark them with your child's name correctly spelled so I can return
it
to you. Mail them to Leslie Landauer, 8742 W. Wethersfield Road,
Peoria,
85381 no later than April 15th. This is a hard deadline!. Also, I could
use any other terrific photos you may have of your child or the other
8th
graders. You can call me and I will be available to pick up these items
at
the park if it's easier for you. If you have an up-coming event scheduled
in the next 2 months please let me know. I will try to attend to tape
some
footage. Please be prompt with the deadline. I do not want your child to
be left out of this special graduation video. On March 29th and April 5th,
I will be filming at the park from noon to 1:30. Please use this
opportunity and have your 8th grader there to be on camera. Here's a
sample
of the questions I might ask.
What is your favorite song? Your favorite hangout? When did you discover
the 'gifts' you have been given? How will you contribute to better
this
world? Who is your biggest influence?
Look for the camera set up near the tennis courts. I hope each graduate
can
be part of the taping sessions. There is a possibility a copy will be
made
available for you to purchase. If you have questions or ideas, please
call
Leslie Landauer at 623-xxx-xxxx.
Student Council
We will conclude for the school year by the end of April and resume
again
with our Council Kick-off the last week of August. During the month of
April
we will hold elections for leadership positions. If your student
is
interested, a candidate statement form will be available at our
meetings.
The requirement is 1 year of active membership and the completion
of
chairing an event during the 1999 -2000 school year. If you would like
more
information please call Brenda Arce @ (623) xxx-xxxx. Brenda
