P.E. Classes - Open? Closed?
There has been a lot of confusion regarding our P.E. classes. I'd like to
try to clear it up. Our W.S.H.E. classes are from Noon until 2:00 p.m.
These are "closed" in the sense that only West Side members may participate
in these classes, however this does not mean that they are full and that no
one else can join them. The 11:00 a.m. class is being offered by A.I.T. and
is "open" to anyone whether they are registered with West Side or not. We
often plan activities that start at 11:00 a.m., and encourage members to
enroll in the noon or 1:00 a.m. P.E. class so they will not miss anything.
If you are still confused, call Bonnie at 623-xxx-xxxx.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Many thanks to Annamae Miller for her coordinating efforts and the many
hours of hard work that she contributed towards making our History/Geography
Fair a great success.
Also, many thanks to Judith Preston for organizing the International Pot
Luck Dinner.
And a big THANK YOU to all of the kids who participated in the History
/Geography Fair. Everyone enjoyed your displays and performances. We
appreciate your hard work. Congratulations on a job well done!

Boswell Hospital Volunteers
Julie Murdock from Boswell Hospital will address our interested parents and
students (age 13 and up) regarding volunteer opportunities. She will be at
Sweetwater Park on Weds., Dec. 8th at 2 .m. Any questions call Brenda Arce
at 623-xxx-xxxx.

Eighth Grade Graduation Meeting
Weds., Dec. 1st at 12:30 p.m. We will meet to continue planning. We ask
that all parents with participating students attend. Any questions call
Brenda Arce at 623-xxx-xxxx.

Junior High Graduation
Here is an opportunity to put all that money you've payed for music lessons
to work. We are looking for kids who play a musical instrument or sing to
help us out with the music at the junior high graduation. If they play a
musical instrument, they need to be an advanced student, however, all ages
and levels of singers will be fine. Rehearsals will begin in February or
March.

Student Council Food Drive

We would like to take this time to thank everyone for their generous food
donations. We collected 248 food items for the West Side Food Bank.

Speechmasters
This great program has been around our area for about 3 years and is about
homeschoolers getting together to teach and encourage our children in the
art of public speaking.
Children can bring someone's else writing to read or can write their own to
come and present it in front of the group. The group will vote for the best
speaker in each category, and whoever wins is awarded a trophy.
+ There will be three different age groups: 4-7, 8-10, 11 and up.
+ Each session will have a different theme; some already set are: Vacation
Story, Biography, Autobiography, What if..., Original Poem, Book Report, and
Humorous Writing.
+ The December session will be on Thursday 16th at 1:00 PM again at the
Glendale Library Auditorium. The children can write about their Thanksgiving
experience this November or any other Thanksgiving! Any child is welcome to
bring another subject if that is what they want to share, or bring nothing
at all and just watch, they'll be ready another time!
+ The cost is $1 per family per session.
Come and see them improve on writing, expression, vocalization, creativity,
and speaking in front of others!!

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks
Special thanks to the families that made the Thanksgiving cards,
particularly to the moms who supported the Student Council card making.
Thanks also to the many moms (and dads) who helped making them with the
whole WSHE group! We made 205 Thanksgiving cards total! Good job on sharing.
God blesses you for this!
Thanks to those who brought art supplies to share or donate. You may do this
anytime since this is an ongoing activity throughout the year.
Five families already went to deliver the cards at a care center. What a
blessing for all! It is always such an educational experience to go see the
elderly and give a little of our time and of what we have! We will go at
least 2 times to deliver Christmas cards. So if you know of a nursing home
or care center, or you want to go deliver, please call Ingrid at
623-xxx-xxxx and leave the message.

Attention -About P.E. Class

Mom's Night Out
Aunt Pittypat's Restaurant - 7123 N. 58th Ave. at 5:00 p.m. on December 16,
1999
If you have never been to Aunt Pittypat's at Christmas time, you are in for
a treat. I think it is the most beautifully decorated place in town.
We will meet there for dinner at 5:00 and if we can be finished by 6:30 or
7:00, then we can do some Christmas shopping at the nearby shops that will
be open until 9:00. The restaurant also has a lovely gift shop upstairs.
We will be doing a fun gift exchange, one in which you get to keep your
gift! No one is going to take it from you. The only request is that it be
handmade. If you absolutely cannot make anything, consider getting a friend
or relative to make you something. It does not need to be addressed to
anyone in particular.
There is a $10 non-refundable deposit per person. Sign up and pay at the
park by December 8th or send payment to Renee Metcalf at 3138 W. Turney
Ave., Phoenix, Az 85017. When you arrive at the restaurant, you will
receive your $10 to use for ordering dinner, beverages, dessert, etc..

Peoria Public Library Volunteer Program

Hi. My name is Samantha Stuart, and I have recently had experience
volunteering at the Peoria Public Library. I had a great time, and thought
that maybe someone else might want to volunteer there too. You can
volunteer from 4 hours a week a few times a month, to 8 hours a day 5 days a
week, it's your choice. The people there are a pleasure to work with, and
it's such a nice experience just to be helping.
There are many area's in the library you can work in. There's the reference
section, the Book Sale area, Book-sort area, Youth section, Computer aide,
and so much more. Although ages may vary, Jill (The Volunteer coordinator)
is very nice about it.
You will gain lots of experience, respect for all the other librarians, and
many friends!
For more information contact Jill Thompson @ 623-xxx-xxxx, or e-mail her
at
JillT@Peoriaaz.com.

Spelling Bee - Paideia 2000
The Paideia 2000 is now available to purchase at the park for $1.00. This
is the official study booklet from the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee.
Our homeschool group is considered a District. The winner of our January
10th bee will go on to compete at the Region competion in March. To get
your copy of the booklet, see Bonnie Bailey at the park on Wednesdays.

Park Patrol Volunteers Needed
We need people to volunteer to check the park at the end of Park Day to make
sure we leave it in good condition. This simply means staying until 2:00
p.m. when normal park day ends and at that time checking the condition of
the rest rooms and patroling the pavillions to pick up trash that may have
been left inadvertantly. You may also find items that need to go to "lost
and found". If each mom volunteers to do this once, we should be covered
for the rest of the school year. There will be a sign up sheet at the park.
Thanks for your help. We want to keep our good reputation and be good
stewards of the park.

A Simple Christmas Gathering
On December 15th there's a 'tea' of sorts,
You're all invited east of the courts.
We'll have cocoa and cider piping hot,
Sit and relax and visit a lot.
Bring a few goodies among friends to share;
'tween noon and two--see you there!
